JARRE new studio album + Concert in the Sahara desert (Morocco)

It's been more than 2 years now that I've been lucky to join the Jean Michel JARRE/CPM team as a musician/arranger/musical director.
After the Beijing (CHINA) concert in 2004, Copenhagen (DENMARK), MONACO, Gdansk (POLAND), Lint (BELGIUM) in 2005 the year 2006 was very busy :
- the making of a new JEAN MICHEL JARRE studio album (to be released internationaly in March 2007 for WARNER)
The album features 13 new titles and will be released March 26th. I was one of the few musicians who collaborated very closely in the making of the project with JM.
- a unique "WATER FOR LIFE" concert performed in the SAHARA desert in MOROCCO (Dec 16th 2006) under the auspices of the UNESCO and the Kingdom or Morocco with 60 moroccan musicians (Philharmonic, Gnawa, Oriental orchestra, oud, Berber choir...)
The concert was a real challenge (as usual with JM :-), but Alain Bilowus (the boss of CPM) put together a team of experienced and trusty collaborators who made the artistic wishes of JM come true.
The show was unreel, performed in the desert and was entirely conceived by JM, with 9 huge screens for video that survived the sand storms and desert winds. It was a magic experience for all.

EXCALIBUR II

After having worked on his "Gaïa" project ALAN SIMON (composer/producer) offered me the opportunity to work on a new episode of his EXCALIBUR TRILOGY : EXCALIBUR II.
A lot of work has been done at my studio in Paris STUDIO 124 (vocals, solo ethnic instruments, guitars, percussions...)as well as studios in UK, Switzerland, USA, Spain, Czech Rep....As usual Alan mixed the project with Marco Canepa in Italy.
I had the chance to engineer some great sessions with world famous UK prog rock icons and celtic music virtuosos. I played some guitars too, as well as the uzbek tar, thaï pin, irish bouzuki/mandolin, slide and helped Alan on some arranging.
The album is due to have an international release (EMI) in February 2007 and featured world class guests from the celtic and prog rock scene : Jon Anderson (YES), Alan PARSONS, John Wetton (KING CRIMSON , ASIA), FAIRPORT CONVENTION, Les Holroyd (BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST), Justin Hayward (MOODY BLUES), John Helliwell (SUPERTRAMP), Jeremy Spencer (FLEETWOOD MAC), celtic stars FLOOK, Jacqui McShee (PENTANGLE), Maddy Prior, Karan Casey, Carlos Nunez, Dan Ar Braz, Didier Squiban, the great harpist Andreas Vollenweider, and the french britons MERZHIN and Bagad de St Nazaire. The Symphonic orchestra of Praga was arranged and conducted by Lee Holdridge.

VIZA

VIZA is a young Russian vocal duet formed by Altana Kojenbaieva (from Kalmyk origin) and Oleg Chinarov from Moscow. They are both attractive singers, dancers and musicians and their live performances show a good blend of charm and energy. Altana plays the dombra (a 2 string traditional instrument) and Oleg is a very good multi-instrumentalist (Programming, accordeon , guitar..) I produced 2 songs "Love is a song" and "Look" tailored for them after the recommendations of Alexandra their manager. It was the opportunity to work in Moscow and Paris. Those songs are radio/club compatible and remixes are in the tubes. The CD is going to be widely distributed in 2007 in Russia and western Europe.

IN THE TUBES.....

Some very important and motivating project with China :
One includes composing/arranging for a major female mainland China artist.
I also hope to participate to some major cultural events associated with the 2008 Olympics. Those projects are pretty well advanced with my chinese friends.
. Completing some composing and participating to new projects with Frederic Leibovitz Editeur and Koka Media.
. Working with one great african musician for an instrumental album. The project should be started before summer
. Compete for defining the new sound identity of one of the biggest french brands. "Sonic branding" is used to equip brand managers and agencies with a ready-made tool for the ongoing work on a brand, one that will act as a constant thread. it will include the making of jingles , snippets, music theme, ringtones, etc....
. Completing some original karaoke arrangements of traditional french songs with trad and modern versions for the french publisher MFG.

STUDIO 124 NEWS

Studio 124 is now fully equipped with a brand new ProTools HD3 TDM (24in/24out with 192 interfaces with MIDI & Sync) with plenty of TDM plug-ins (Soundtoys bundle, TC MD3 mastering, Pitch & Time Pro. TL reverb....and Virtual Instruments like BFD, Sylus, Garritan, East West , Percussive Adventures, Halion, StormDrums, Absynth, SampleTank....)

A new Mac Intel Xeon Dual Core 2 x 2.66 runs the Digidesign new baby, next to Cubase 4 and Digital Performer 5.
The inaugural session was engineered by Marco Canepa for Alan Simon's Excalibur II project. The singer was the great John Wetton (Asia , King Crimson).

For nomade recordings a Digi 002 with a boosted ProTools LE (48 stereo tracks) or MBox is also available on a G4 PowerBook 1.5GHz with Cubase & DP too. I also use an Edirol R-09 for instant stereo field recordings (24bits Wave/Mp3)
That nomade kit was of a great help in the Moroccan desert for Jarre's concert.

I added a few more ethnic percussions to my collection from Pakistan , South and North India and Morocco. One was given to me by the great carnatic singer Manickam Yogeswaran.
I also got a great professionaly crafted Gimbri (3 string Gnawa bass), made by gnawa star Hamid El Kasri, from Morocco.

Some brand new LAG Guitars (electro-acoustic and electric) were also added as well as a great Johnson electro acoustic Dobro, thanks to Gerard Garnier and Algam. I used them with Jarre in Morocco.

On the hardware side, a KORG KAOSS PAD 3 makes wonders ! Small, cheap but what a great tool :-) it was an appreciated inspiration tool during the final rush on Jarre's album. I also got a Roland MC-808, now added to the 505.

"Tired of your old sleeping 2" tapes ? Save and tranfer them in one pass to ProTools HD3 sessions"

Studio 124 is ready to offer his clients the possibilty to transfer their old precious 2" 24 tracks analog tapes in one pass for a direct transfer into a ProTools session. This transfer between a Sony APR-24 synched with ProTools will be very useful for making safety copies and for the given opportunity to remix old great songs out of those ready-to-remix new ProTools sessions. Being done in one take (24in/24out) there's no risk of out of sync glitches.
