"I have recorded hundreds of commercials as a session guitar player, since the "Golden Age" of sessions when musicians would come in at 9 a.m. to record backing tracks live in 3 takes max per cue, and be finished quickly enough to leave way for musical overdubs, voice-overs and vocals.
Nowadays, most musicians just come in for a solitary overdub, working on programmed tracks, if and when a "real" instrument is required :-)
